MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

Program Details

Mechanical Engineering Department

Our strong academic performance in high school enables you to pursue a range of educational opportunities. One avenue you'll want to explore is mechanical engineering. Studying mechanical enginee- ring at GEC, Patan will equip you with a broad education, preparing you for a variety of career paths graduation and  providing  a solid foundation for continuing education. Mechanical engineering enco- mpasses many areas.  In short,  anything that involves the design and  or manufacturing of  mechanical,  thermal or  electronic devices and  or processes falls entrepreneurs, chief engineers, astronauts, faculty, physicians and patent attorneys, among other occupations. The field includes activities such as designing, developing, manufacturing, managing, researching and controlling engineering systems and their components.

Vision:

To deliver total quality education in mechanical engineering through research in cutting edge technologies, human values, a culture of carrying trust and continuous learning to meet expectation of students, industries and society at large.

Mission:

1. To educate the students in the field of Mechanical engineering, with the professional skills and ethical values through holistic teaching-learning process.

2. To develop Mechanical Engineering solutions to problems of industry, government and society.

3. To develop partnership with industrial and government agencies.

4. To ensure that every student participates at least in one conference and activities of professional societies.

Labs

The primary aim of Advanced computational and Measuring Laboratory is to reflect the importance of the computational and Measuring tools and techniques and, also keeping the challenge promoted by the students and Faculty Members during the Research and Development work on Advanced instruments. 2
This Laboratory is equipped with highly automated Computer numerical control Lathe and Milling machine and also have the Wire cut EDM as a non conventional machine.
Dynamic loads and undesired oscillations increase with higher speed of machines. At that time, knowledge and practical exposure is required for better vibration reduction. The Laboratory deals with balancing of mechanisms, torsional and bending vibrations, vibration isolation, and the dynamic behavior of drives and machine frames as complex systems using static and dynamic balancing apparatus, whirling of shaft apparatus and universal vibration apparatus. Main objective of study about dynamics is to understand how a static and dynamic mass is balanced, To study about different types of vibration.
After learning the course the students should be able to 1. To understand the fundamentals of mechanical systems 2. To understand and appreciate significance of mechanical engineering in different fields of engineering.
Fluid power plays an important role in industry. Fluid Power Engineering Laboratory has facility to introduce Flow through Pipes, Impact of Jet, Hydraulic Turbines, Pumps, Different Compressors and Miscellaneous Machines. Uses of fluid power include machine tools, off-road vehicles, material testing systems etc. One objective of this course is to introduce students to this exciting field through hands on exercises of connecting up fluid power circuits and observing how they operate. The second objective of the course is to provide students with hands on experience in designing and implementing control systems for real systems.
Heat Transfer laboratory provides fundamental and industrial knowledge about modes of heat transfer, like conduction, convection and radiation, and their application. Heat Transfer Lab consists of number of equipments.

The laboratory is equipped with number of equipment & experimental setups to study the fundamental & applied aspects of the internal combustion (IC) engines.

Internal Combustion Engines Laboratory mainly focus on Engines Performance, Emissions and Combustion characteristics of various engines by using conventional fuels, different alternate bio-fuels, Engine combustion diagnostics and other engines related research and consultancy works through Experimental and Computational work

Material science and Metallurgy is a across a broad spectrum ranging from grand science and Technology challenges and discovery research which addresses fundamental limitations in our understanding of complex states of matter to directed research that guides design of new materials to advance energy technologies.
